Real life Jurassic Park?

Take a look at the clip from the movie Jurassic Park.

After viewing the clip, read the article below.

Beyond Jurassic Park -- Real Science With Ancient DNA

Science Fiction movies are great for expanding the mind and showing us things we may never get to see in real life. Unfortunately, they all seem to make many errors regarding true science. Should we stop watching these movies? Definitely not! Instead, I want you to think like a true scientist and critically analyze the things you see in the movies.

Can you think of other movies that stretch true science?

  1. Interesting activity. I like how students can recall movies they have seen and reflect on why some of their events are science fiction. This allows students to contrast the fictional events with real life phenomena so that students can better understand how the world works.

I agree that the study of science fiction can be beneficial and open a whole universe of what-ifs? This genre allows us to question the world as it stands and explore science even more deeply!

  2. I agree this is a really interesting activity. It is a good way to look at movies as true scientists.

Some other movies I think are Planet of the Apes and Star Wars.

  3. I love this movie. I use to watch this a lot when I was a kid. I think of a lot of movies that stretch Science such as Prometheus,Species, Predator, and Armageddon.
